With medical madness and depression galore, “The Pitt” has branded itself as one of, if not, the best medical drama of all time–deservedly so. If you’re looking to binge and obsess over a show that will make you chew your nails down from stress, this is the show for you.
‘The Pitt’ is a hyper-realistic medical drama that closely follows a team of ER doctors as they get through their 15-hour shifts. Each episode of the show represents one hour of a fifteen hour shift, and each season represents one whole work day.
The directing of this show is unlike any other. While watching “The Pitt”, I felt like I myself was a patient in the ER, watching all the chaos from the sidelines. There’s blood, tears, drama and laughter–and all of it felt perfectly natural. So natural, in fact, that there were moments when I started genuinely stressing over characters, having forgotten that it was just a show.
My favorite part of the show is how beautifully and respectfully it highlights real-life issues prevalent in our society. The Pitt addresses human-trafficking, insurance and payment struggles, stigma around addiction, sexual assault, violence against healthcare workers, gender-based mistreatment and many other hard-to-speak-of issues that riddle the healthcare industry but are never brought up. It opened my eyes to the reality of the system, to its brutality and to the strength of the people who work for that industry.
While the heart-crushing stories of love and loss are what I love most about this show, this emotional impact could not have been achieved without the wonderful writing and acting by the show-writers and cast. With each scene of every episode, it was easy to understand that the actors of “The Pitt” truly put all of their effort into understanding and becoming their characters. And the writers, with the respect and advice of actual healthcare professionals, managed to create a universe where each story, small or big, meant something.
So far, the show has two complete seasons, and has been renewed for a third, fourth and fifth. I honestly can’t wait for the next seasons, and I have absolutely no doubt they’re all going to be incredible.
