Due to new rules at Everett High School, students will now be required to wear uniforms. Red collared shirts with an “E” embroidery (representing the school), khaki bottoms, and white shoes are going to be the expectation for students of all grades.
This change may come as a surprise to students since Everett High isn’t a private school. The idea had been thrown up in the air since the beginning of the school year but now that the year is slowly coming to an end, staff thought it would be a good idea to put the rule on lockdown.
“The change was my idea, I think this position put me in a place where I constantly think of the benefits and best decisions for students,” principal John Braga said. “They don’t have to stress about what they’ll wear and my prediction is more people will be on time due to less of their morning being dedicated to what their outfit is.”
Staff has decided to let the students have at least a little freedom and have decided on a scheduled “dress down” or no uniform day which will be the first of every month. Spirit week themes are also days where students do not have to wear uniforms as long as they make it obvious they are participating in that specific theme for the day.
“I think the uniform rule is a very smart decision. I see so many students walking in the hallway with pajamas and slides so the uniforms are a good way for the students to look more put together and professional in a way,” assistant principal Christopher Phillips added.
Everyday, starting by the time April vacation is over, students will be expected to follow the new dress code and if they fail to do so they will be sent home for not abiding by the new rule. Enough offences will cause said student to have much more serious consequences.
The concession booth near the gymnasium will now be used to sell students the new uniforms. The shirts will be sold at 10 dollars each and bottoms will be 15 dollars each.
