In a meeting with Everett Public School’s administration and school officials, Superintendent Hart proposed the idea of a name change for the high school. At first, a collective confusion flooded the room. However, after some explanation the group came to a decision.
The question that the proposal initially brought up was, what is wrong with the school’s current name? Mr. Hart explained his reasoning with wanting to have the name of the high school be a way to honor an influential member of our community. It is important to note that many of the K-8 buildings in Everett are named after residents that played a significant role in Everett’s history.
“Changing the name of Everett High School was an idea that came to me in a dream,” said Superintendent Hart. “In my dream EHS was William Hart High School.”
Many names were brought up in the meeting. Dr. Braga introduced Glendale Park High School, which was originally a top contender. Ms. DiNatalie offered Crimson Tide High, but not many people agreed on that name. Assistant Superintendent Chris Barrett threw out the name Elvis Presley Memorial High School, and the room went silent. Mr. Lynch then came up with the next idea to rename the high school Drake Maye High School; his idea was a fan favorite.
“I am very disappointed nobody liked my idea,” said Mr. Barrett. “Elvis is my favorite musician. This would have been a great way to honor him. The gym could’ve been made to replicate the Jungle Room.”
Mr. Hart and his team then announced that this was not a topic for discussion. Central Administration had already finalized the new name of Everett High School. They announced that the school would be renamed as William Hart High School. The conference table loved it. Many wondered why they hadn’t thought to it themselves.
Unfortunately, this was all the retelling of a dream by the Superintendent. April Fools!
