The movie ‘Wicked: For Good’ debuted on this week on November 22.
Last year, when I had previously watched part one of the Wicked movies when it came out, I was on the edge of my seat, excited for the second part, ‘Wicked: For Good’, to come out. I couldn’t believe I had to wait nearly a year. However, the wait was definitely worth it, ‘Wicked: For Good’ brought a channeled sense of fear, excitement and even sadness to the big screen.
Before watching the movie, I had seen a lot of discourse from early screeners saying the movie was quite emotional and brought tears to their eyes. I thought this was pretty ridiculous and that I wouldn’t feel the same way, since it is a movie after all, but I was indeed brought to tears. In my opinion, the movie was executed so well and beautifully that there was no way you wouldn’t cry or feel some emotional response to the events.
Still, the movie has received some mixed reviews. Some complain that the length of the movie affects the story, making it faster paced and skipping over major plot holes, or that the songs weren’t as good as Part 1 or the Broadway musical, which the movie is an adaptation of, or even that Part 1 was too good and set their hopes up for the disappointment of Part 2.
Others say that the movie was perfectly paced and that the songs and even the movie itself topped Part 1. However, the majority seems to agree that the song ‘No Good Deed’ was exceptional and that Cynthia Erivo, the actress for Elphaba Thropp, gave the song justice, and that it might even be the best song performed in the movie.
I can definitely see why people have mixed thoughts on the movie since it was a little different from Part 1, but I feel that is also mostly the point. Part 2 is expected to be more sad and upsetting, showing the shifts between the characters and their lives.
Overall, I thought ‘Wicked: For Good’ was amazing and carried out perfectly. The movie caters to all audiences and ages. I would certainly recommend it to anyone.
