Taylor Swift released her latest album called “The Tortured Poets Department” this April. This was her eleventh studio album. She announced its release during the 66th Annual Grammys in February. On the release day April 19, at 2 A.M. she released another double album called “The Toturted Poets Department: The Anthology.” Both albums had 35 songs in total.
The album included songs that had songs meant for other people. This varies from love songs for her partner to songs for her opposition. For example, the songs “So High School” and “The Prophecy” appear to be about current boyfriend Travis Kelce.
At the same time, some songs threw shade at people who hated her and struck controversy. The song “thanK you aIMee” spelled “KIM” to throw shade at Kim Kardashian. These songs blew up the album.
“The Tortured Poets Department” was the most streamed album in a single day. In less than 12 hours, the album had over 300 million streams. Not only did it break one record, it broke multiple. Being the most pre-saved album, the first album to hit a billion streams in a week, and having the biggest streams for a pop album on Apple Music are some of the records it broke. As you can tell, “The Tortured Poets Department” is one record-breaking album. It had a lot of controversy around it but also some sweetness towards it.
Overall, this album was more like “Folklore” because it was a mix of sad songs with a couple of songs that gave off the same energy as her “Fearless” album. This album could be listened to by everyone. Even though some songs would be explicit there are some fun songs your toddler and preteen could listen to like the song “So High School” which is more of a pop song. Though, they might not fully understand the lyrics.
Others think this album didn’t live up to its high potential, but the lyrics that she stated in the songs had deep meaning. This gave mixed opinions for the album. Swifties were excited about the double album. They were definitely not expecting it but they realized it was Swift and she randomly did announce the album at the Grammys so it could have been expected. Others stated they rather have “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)” rather than “The Tortured Poets Department.”
In conclusion, “The Tortured Poet Department” was a great album. The album had different types of music in it like it matched with multiple of her other albums. I would deeply recommend you to listen to it. The album and the songs have deep meaningful lyrics that may be relatable for you.
