Fatima Gassama, reporter
Freshman Fatima Gassama is outgoing, yet quiet. Her idol is her older sister and also her reason for taking the class. One of her favorite hobbies she enjoys very much is cooking. As a girl in an African household, she is often in the kitchen preparing a meal for her family as this is a common role that many young African girls take on starting at a young age. Her favorite kind of food to cook is, not surprisingly, food from her motherland. Gassama enjoys listening to Afrobeat, rap and R&B. Some of her favorite artists are Jhene Aiko, Brent Faiyaz and Bryson Tiller. Gassama has many skills, including that she’s bilingual. Her main passion is getting good grades so that she can graduate early and achieve her goal of becoming a physician assistant or related career. It is important to her to get into a good college because her parents immigrated to the U.S. from Senegal and Gambia to have a better life and provide their children with more opportunities. This is the reason why she is an empathetic and relatable person that appreciates people from all backgrounds and qualifications, which makes her a talented and experienced member of the journalism staff.
