When it comes to developing and making sure something thrives, it takes a team to come together in order to achieve that goal. But there is one special person on the Crimson Times team that should be acknowledged: senior Marielle Ssegujja.
Ssegujja was given the task to make something out of the Crimson Times social media platform and not only has she delivered, she has done that and so much more.
Ssegujja was goal-oriented and desired to achieve something through this opportunity. “I wanted to legitimize the Crimson Times as a respected student publication,” Ssegujja said. “I just wanted to bring credibility and creativity to the Crimson Times.”
Ssegujja has managed to achieve what she strived to accomplish, and it all comes from her talented marketing skills. “I’m in the Marketing Pathway and we really stress social media work in our coursework,” Ssegujja said. “My marketing instructor Mrs. Nguyen had also worked with social media and was really knowledgeable on the subject so I was coming from a social media background.”
Not only has she exercised her marketing skills towards the Crimson Times social media platform, but she’s also been the main social media manager for the Fashion Club during the past three years, making a huge impact on both teams.
Moreover, the attention that the Crimson Times social media platform has gained over the time of Ssegujja’s presence further proves how effective she’s been. “Now, I would say our monthly views have gone up, as well as our likes. And people repost the stories they think matter, which I think is a tell-tale sign that they respect us and think our work is worthy of other people seeing,” Ssegujja said.
While Ssegujja had accomplishments of what she had achieved while being the Crimson Times social media manager, she also had dreams of what Crimson Times can become, even when she’s away.
“I hope in the future we can become a newspaper that people look up to all around the Greater Boston area,” Ssegujja said. “I think if we keep heading in the direction we do, we will matter not only to the people on staff but to every single person in the city. That’s wishful thinking, of course.”
So if there is anyone on the team who should be acknowledged for their efforts towards the Crimson Times social media page, it would be Ssegujja.
“It’s definitely been very enjoyable! While the workload can be very high, it is so much fun to see how the student body interacts with social media,” Ssegujja said. “It’s definitely a high reward extracurricular. I hope whoever decides to take over when I leave finds it equally as rewarding.”
