All of the songs in this album are angelic and ethereal. It makes you feel like you’re floating on a cloud. However the name isn’t very fitting for the album, as the mood of the album is very cloudy compared to sunny and uplifting.
“Sunshine” isn’t similar to her previous work because she doesn’t usually sing this quietly. Her songs are normally louder. Her voice is naturally not very low (in between low and deep), but when she sings her voice is kind of on the lower side, and it’s really a calming, sort of otherworldly tone.
The high point of the album is her song “We can’t be friends.” It feels like she put her heart into this song, compared to some of her other work that doesn’t feel very authentic to Grande’s previous works.
The low point of this album is “End of the world.” The song doesn’t grow. It doesn’t change. It doesn’t elevate. It doesn’t get better. It sounds very monotone. Her vocals are so flexible. However, her voice just floats on one octave the entire song.
I was really surprised that she addressed the rumors in a way that implied the rumors were true about her being a home wrecker. I honestly thought she would have addressed the rumors by disagreeing with them.
Anyone who has an unconventional love life or feels that people are invading their personal life will relate to this album and feel heard by Grande’s lyrics. Also, people who have been friend-zoned can probably relate to her song “We can’t be friends.”
I have been a fan of hers for seven years. I never really personally related to Ariana Grande or felt drawn to her as a personality. But I think she has a beautiful voice and some of her songs are definitely on my favorites playlist.
I believe the message Grande conveyed in her album, “Eternal Sunshine,” was definitely along the lines of, “I take accountability for what I have done, and I don’t regret it at all.”
