Senior Marielle Ssegujja’s (she/her) parents are from Uganda, but she has lived in Everett her entire life. Ssegujja is a part of the crew varsity team and is also the president of the Fashion Club. She loves fashion and thinks it’s a beautiful way to express herself. Ssegujja has a love for literature by female authors, and is a writer as well, having a blog herself. Some of her favorite artists include Olivia Rodrigo, Charli XCX, Addison Rae, and the Dare. Once during quarantine, she was in a social group with a skincare brand called “Bubble” before they launched products to talk about marketing. This was the start of her love of business and lifestyle/fashion. Ssegujja has a dream to go to Fordham University in the Bronx to study marketing and wants to minor in fashion merchandising.
Senior Ace Donnelly (he/him) is a big fan of indie and alternative music. His favorite artist of all time is British singer/songwriter, Beabadoobee. His favorite song from Bea’s most recent album, “This is How Tomorrow Moves,” is “Real Man.” His favorite band is American alt-metal group Deftones. As for Deftones, his favorite song is “976-EVIL” from the album “Diamond Eyes.” Music is significant in his day-to-day lifestyle and influences a lot with his emotions. Donnelly believes that an obscure fact about him is his ambivert personality, which is essentially made up of both introvert and extrovert characteristics. Donnelly is excited about the opportunity to be in his journalism class to write and explore his creativity more to be a better writer. This also makes him an ideal student who would thrive in a journalistic academic environment. Donnelly shared that his friends contribute a great deal of motivation to his life, which is both wholesome and inspiring. Donnelly enjoys relaxing in bed while using his phone to unwind after a long day with his cats and dogs. Donnelly’s heart and soul are his adorable cats Elsa and Ash who are Siamese. On the outside, Donnelly’s dogs Rory and Mia are skittish and feisty, but with their pack, they are loving and loyal.
Senior Rommel Tayag Jr. (he/him) has a passion for not dropping out and choosing an easy way out of school, something which most men and women can relate to. His ideal plan is to buy his mother a house and pay her back for all the times she took care of him as a child. Nothing really affects the way he acts. He sees himself as a chill guy, which we assume most people see him as. His personality is more calm and he seems to not be so hyper and loud. His activities are playing basketball, rock climbing, and also playing video games. His favorite game is Valorant which is a pretty popular game that a lot of people like to compete in. This shows his dedication on fitting his favorite things he’s interested in but also keeping a professional and serious demeanor.
Senior Cinthia Salvador (she/her/hers) is someone you would mistake as quiet and reserved when you first talk to her, but she is very outgoing, social, and loud, depending on the atmosphere. She is proud of her ethnicity of being Honduran, although a lot of people mistake her as Brazilian. Writing is something that Salvador enjoys, and can range from opinion-based to writing down her personal thoughts. Salvador has worked hard during her high school career and now is in her senior year. Her GPA and grades will help her achieve her goals of going to an elite college to study communications. Studying communications in college will help her get a job and internships with the skills she’s learned.
Freshman Alisa Sandberger was born in the states and shares a rich heritage from Cape Verde, Italy, Germany, and Portugal. Her multicultural background gives her a broad view of the world. Sandberger expresses a deep aspiration for artistry and writing. She thinks that expressing yourself simply through pen and paper is empowering. Sandberger enjoys doing calligraphy in her free time. She appreciates the beauty of lettering, something so pretty that gets taken for granted and is unrecognized. Her love for writing and art indicates she has creative mindset and will make a natural journalist. She’s passionate about art and the vast opportunities it gives you to express yourself. Her dream would be to own an accomplished bakery in Boston or a neighboring city.
Freshman Edwich Jean Pierre enjoys many things other than journalism, including reading, writing and volleyball. Something about Jean Pierre that people don’t notice at first is that he’s an all-honors student. He has good academics and a good idea on his school activities. For example, this year he plans on playing volleyball and indulging in different clubs in school, mostly things he can do with friends. The list of activities he prefers to do outside of school consists of cooking, going to church, worshiping, and hanging out with friends and family. Jean Pierre has a lot of admiration and respect for his family, academics, and God. Sometimes he experiences writer’s block or that whenever he has an idea he doesn’t know where to start.
Freshman Lilliana Guzman is an Italian/Puerto Rican who finds peace in her own activities. Guzman enjoys reading, art, and writing about her general life, but academic-wise she enjoys biology and cosmetology. After she finishes school and graduates, she strives to become someone whose career revolves around biology, such as a biochemist or ecologist. Guzman believes that if that doesn’t go well, then she’ll soon follow in the footsteps of her licenced grandmother and indulge in cosmetology. The creativity and options when it comes to cosmetology is what intrigues her the most. Besides her grandmother, someone else she strives to be is Boogie Wit Da Hoodie because “he has banger songs” and she wants to be able to produce something like that. Although she has many hobbies outside of journalism, she’s just as competitive and determined inside the classroom as she is outside of it. She plans on staying in journalism because it fits her personality perfectly. Journalism allows her to be lively, friendly, and social, especially with the people she interviews. Her interests in writing and journaling in her free time drove her to feel like she belongs in journalism and that is where she is now.
Freshman Fatima Gassama is outgoing, yet quiet. Her idol is her older sister and also her reason for taking the class. One of her favorite hobbies she enjoys very much is cooking. As a girl in an African household, she is often in the kitchen preparing a meal for her family as this is a common role that many young African girls take on starting at a young age. Her favorite kind of food to cook is, not surprisingly, food from her motherland. Gassama enjoys listening to Afrobeat, rap and R&B. Some of her favorite artists are Jhene Aiko, Brent Faiyaz and Bryson Tiller. Gassama has many skills, including that she’s bilingual. Her main passion is getting good grades so that she can graduate early and achieve her goal of becoming a physician assistant or related career. It is important to her to get into a good college because her parents immigrated to the U.S. from Senegal and Gambia to have a better life and provide their children with more opportunities. This is the reason why she is an empathetic and relatable person that appreciates people from all backgrounds and qualifications, which makes her a talented and experienced member of the journalism staff.
Freshman Shashi Pokhrel is taking her first year of journalism class. Pokhrel is from Nepal and loves her ethnic culture. She is extremely determined in all of her studies since she is currently taking seven honors classes. This doesn’t change for her extracurriculars either. Pokhrel is currently training hard for cross country. She’s looking forward to the rest of her cross country season, joining the indoor track team, and also trying out for the girls tennis team. In her free time, she loves watching ‘Suits’. This TV show inspired her to become a lawyer when she grows up. She loves to listen to Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams. Pokhrel is excited to be joining the Crimson Times team.
Junior Nick Coffman is currently achieving his goals of being a great student. In his free time he enjoys basketball and football, but during the times he can not go outside, he draws and plays Call of Duty. Coffman is a very proactive and creative student. Although Coffman is always playing video games, basketball, football, or drawing, he manages to balance everything with school. He prioritizes his school work and strives to be great. Everyone has their own passion and Coffman expressed how school was never his thing. He dreads the thought of waking up and having to go to school. This is why he works so hard and is very motivated to do all his school work. His main goal was to graduate and finish school as fast as possible. Coffman is Puerto Rican, Dominican, and African American. He is originally from Springfield, but we are very lucky to have him attend our school. Nick Coffman is somebody to look up to for his hard work and determination.
Senior Davilise Cora (she/her) has been on the color guard team since her sophomore year. The growth of the team and the hours she’s dedicated to the sport is something Cora is extremely passionate about. Baking is a huge hobby of hers, from cookies and cakes to macarons and tiramisu. Cora is a white Puerto Rican, but she doesn’t feel that connected to her culture. Her dream concert would be Sabrina Carpenter and she enjoys other artists like Charli XCX, Britney Spears, and Olivia Rodrigo. Hanging out with friends and partying are her favorite things to do outside of color guard.
Freshman Maria Luiza Dos Santos’ favorite artists are Taylor Swift, Noah Kahan, Josiah Grene, Elevation Worship and Lana Del Rey. Dos Santos is Brazilian-American which means that she was born in America but her culture and family is from Brazil. Maria said that if she could describe herself in other people’s eyes, she would describe herself as hardworking and caring. Dos Santos used these words because she never gives up in whatever she does and is always there for her friends whenever they need it. Dos Santos is a Christian and loves going to church and loves her youth group. Her favorite foods are coxinha, french fries and barbecue wings. Dos Santos plans for high school include doing cheer until her senior year and getting good grades. She would also like to go into the Health Assistance pathway. Her goals for after high school are to go to college and study nursing. She choose these goals because she loves to take care of people. Her favorite hobbies and her passions are baking, cooking, cheering and working out. Dos Santos says that she loves to do these things because they help clear her head and make her feel happy. One thing that people misunderstand about her is that most people think that she is carefree.
